what not to wear!

this afternoon i helped out my good friend and arkansas business photographer take some pictures for an upcoming publication called Arkansas Next: Career Edition! I was just standing in until Liz Massey from Channel 11 got there! This is some guy named Blake Eddonds (sp?) who used to play basketball for the Razorbacks under Nolan Richardson and one year under the other guy, um, anderson? anyway he works for Stephens now and he and liz were on the cover of the magazine! I was just along to see Pirn and help out with the photos! I look like the poster child for UNPROFFESSIONALISM and/or, um, OLD NAVY!

cocaine or wedding cake? that is the question.

so we did decide to celebrate our three, six, nine, and twelve months with wedding CAKE. we took out the box last night and laughed because it looked like d-r-u-g-s all wrapped up. not that either of us has ever seen or will ever see d-r-u-g-s in this quantity. but you know movies and CSI and all that crap... it just needs a johnny chimpo marking on it!

the cake wasn't too bad!

moxie roxy!

roxy - it is funny how you name your dogs but then attach like 800 nicknames to them as well... like they understand. anyway our current fav for roxy is MOXIE ROXY! karl didn't believe me that MOXIE was a REAL word... so here is the definition:

mox·ie
n. Slang

-The ability to face difficulty with spirit and courage.
-Aggressive energy; initiative: “His prose has moxie, though it rushes and stumbles from a pent-up surge” (Patricia Hampl).
-Skill; know-how.

arlo-butt...hmmm...

arlo also gets nicknames.... arlo farlo... but arlo-butt seems to have stuck the most... hahaha... is this too much information? Posted by Picasa

doggie pictures...

arlo and roxy hanging out in the front yard! amazingly they don't run away when we let them out front. they love us. or they just think we are going to give them treats. i wanted to get some pics in the leaves before they all fell off and died! i really can't believe i am posting this many pictures of my dogs. i am accepting fall/almost winter.

i have finally resigned myself to colder days. i am not fighting it anymore! instead i am trying to enjoy it. i even rearranged my closet so the sweaters are easily reached. we have a kick-ass tree in our front yard. the leaves are falling and falling so i thought i would share with you before they were all gone! i am sure my sister will make fun of me for this OH-SO-EXCITING old lady post!

oh and in other GOOD news i have another interview on Monday so keep your fingers crossed for me! things are looking UP UP UP! Posted by Picasa

auntie em, auntie em..

it was a dark and stormy night in Little Rock....

so this is the current weather radar for arkansas as i type this. how frightening is that? so far we haven't seen much at our place of residence. no sirens yet either. but lots of emergency alerts and constant weather reports over regulary scheduled programming. is it sad that i am slightly dissapointed i might miss desperate housewives and/or grey's anatomy. yeah, that is sad. it was about 80 degrees all day - i wore a Tshirt and flip flops to Target for gods sake (i know - classy!). the weather has been "bonkers" here lately. if there IS a tornado, i guess we should hide in the bathroom? this is not the first time i wish we had a basement! stupid south! we don't EVEN have an emergency plan. but karl says it looks like we are just going to get some major rain and strong winds here. we might loose our power and then i couldn't BLOG. tragic!

happy three months today of being married! yea! 92 GLORIOUS days. er... whatever. fun stuff. we are thinking of breaking into our cake topper - instead of once a year, i think once a quaRter! (three months, six months, nine months, and one year!) i mean it isn't possible to eat it all in one night right?

i am told i have been slacking in my blogging duties so i will try to pick it back up for your DAILY enjoyment. we shall see how that works out!

thankful thankful thankful...

1. friends.

i know i have said it before but we have a great social circle! i am thankful that brooke and paul and pam made it down to Little Rock this weekend to see us and the clinton library and the saucer and our doggies. i am glad we got to see blake who was in town for the holiday and have some friends over friday night to hang out! i am thankful we got to hang out with kristen and JR saturday at the Faded Rose for a bit. I am feeling a bit CHEESY and emotional so I googled some friendship quotes!

Hold a true friend with both your hands. -- Nigerian Proverb

A true friend is someone who thinks that you are a good egg even though he knows that you are slightly cracked. -- Bernard Meltzer.

Don't be dismayed at good-byes. A farewell is necessary before you can meet again. And meeting again, after moments or lifetimes, is certain for those who are friends. -- Richard Bach

2. husbands.

this is a pic of sleepy karl after he was both in the attic and under our house fixing and checking crap... who knew he was so HANDY? he has built an ENTIRE fence, fixed our attic fan, fixed our sink; he mowes the yard, he blows leaves... all those fun "home owner projects" that he so loves. in addition he cleans and cooks when he gets the urge. haha! what a lucky girl i am!

In the opinion of the world, marriage ends all, as it does in a comedy. The truth is precisely the opposite: it begins all. ~Anne Sophie Swetchine

Don't marry the person you think you can live with; marry only the individual you think you can't live without. ~Dr. James C. Dobson

Only choose in marriage a man whom you would choose as a friend if he were a woman. ~Joseph Joubert

A happy marriage is the union of two good forgivers. ~Ruth Bell Graham

3. doggies

alright, FINE, i hate you all. i have grown SLIGHTLY attached to arlo and roxy. i had to make a "confession" to karl last night on our way home that i might like them! haha! anyway i need to take some more pictures of them so you all can see how big they are. it is crazy! i want to take some outside pictures with our big maple tree and it's pretty leaves.. if there are any left after the storm.

The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too. ~Samuel Butler, Notebooks, 1912

One reason a dog can be such a comfort when you're feeling blue is that he doesn't try to find out why. ~Author Unknown

things i did and did not do this weekend...

hmmm.. well i still haven't found a job! i went on an interview on Friday for a job I know I did NOT want but wanted to get some interview practice in. it was the SINGLE weirdest interview I have ever been on in my life: 5 InterviewERS and 4 InterviewEES. In the same room. so we all had to answer the same question one right after another. totally and completely bizarre. they also were NOT the kind of people i would ever work for - I am pretty sure they took one look at me and dismissed me (too young) and from that point on didn't really listen to a word i had to say. i forgot how much i hate interviewing and how stressful the whole thing is.

point: i am stressed about not having a job.

the weekend was low-key. we hung out a lot. saw harry potter. (excellent.) ate a LARGE, buttery, salty popcorn and some GIGANTIC cokes at the movie theater (indulgent and like $15 - what is that?). I worked at the Little Gym both Saturday and Sunday. Karl took MiMi to the hospital on Sunday (she was sick like the rest of the world!) so that is not fun.

And Monday we went to Fairy's funeral in Mineral Springs. It was a simple, beautiful service and all the grandkids and many great-grand babies were there. "Mama Graves" was definately a well-loved lady! She had some cool stuff in her house as well - old war rations, children's book from 1930s and 40s, old pictures... can you believe she was born in 1907? Crazy!

and then TODAY my lovely car, Sally the Saturn, would not start. her trunk was left open and her battery died. AND I STILL DON'T FEEL GOOD! AND i don't get to see my family for Turkey Day or even COOK my potato products.

thanks for reading this post by captain depress-O! i am going to go CRY now!

11.17.2005

not a good day.

i don't even have any pictures to post. I image-searched GERMS on google, but none of them were good enough pictures for my standards... so close your eyes and imagine icky germs attacking my immune system... THE immune system I THOUGHT was made of steel because I never got sick does NOT like me this year. i am one of those sickly, coughy, runny nose folk who is afraid to hang out with her friends because they might get my sick germs. I AM THE SNOTTY KID ON THE PLAYGROUND, ugh!

i hate this weather. i hate sinuses. i hate snot. i hate headaches. i hate coughing up a lung everytime i try to laugh! i hate going outside with a coat on and still getting the chills. i hate turning the heat on in my house because that makes me stuffy too. (and wary of our next gas bill!) i hate germs.

on a different note, Rea's mother Fairy passed away last night in her sleep. She was 99 years old. Some of you may know she lives in a small town right outside the deer camp, so she got to see all her grand-babies and great-grand-babies last weekend while we were all down there. Rea was actually staying with her through the week, so he was there last night when she passed. i didn't see her last weekend but karl and i have had the opportunity to spend some time with her when she was here in Little Rock. Say a little prayer for Fairy and Rea and the Graves family!

To cheer us all up I might take some photos of arlo and roxy while they are still little and cute! Soon they will be big and ugly and no one will go AWW when they see them or their pictures! so look for doggies pics later!

Family!

the whole group!

represented: to the far left are scott (kneeling) and holly holding their son hunter from Washington state. Next to that family are the Akols from California! (Standing are Garrett and Dan, sitting Christy, and kneeling her son Carter) Next are the Vollendorfs from Fayetteville - Sean, Kim, Stone (new baby!), Fisher, and Simmy. Smack in the middle are Rea and Mary Kay (they live here in LR of course). Karl and I are in green! and last but not least the Morgans who currently live in McAlister, Oklahoma and are getting ready to move to Salt Lake City, Utah. Pictured is Karl's sister Kristen and her husband Henry and their kiddos - Tyler (on MK's lap) and Kelly (the only GIRL! in pink!)

it is a large crew - all three of Rea's children and MK's two and their spouses and babies. Note we are the only ones without babies! Don't ask me how many times I got asked when that might change!

family portrait.

family picture from our "family photo" sessions. it is kind of bizarro being in someone else's family group photos...even if they are family now it is still all a bit new and still a bit ODD! Posted by Picasa

tomboy at heart....

so even though i am not really good at "the outdoors" i am, in fact, a tomboy at heart so i had to get on the four wheeler and take it for a spin through the woods!

Deer cabin was great. Seeing family is always wonderful. Going to a hotel both nights was EVEN better! karl didn't get any deer this weekend, but aparantly it was a record breaking opening day (as in lots of other people got deer!) two of the older guys at camp got bucks (a 10 point and and a 6 i believe) and karl's step-sister christy - her son garrett got a big doe. so karl is going back this weekend i think... to try his luck again. so i am a deer widow. gross. who invented that phrase and why did i just use it in a sentence? vomit.

well, karl and i are headed off to the family reunion/opening gun weekend for deer season...at the deer camp... in nashville, ar. (home of the nashville scrappers)

hmmm.

i would rather be in T-town so i could attend Lauryl's wedding shower and celebrate Ashley's return to Tulsa from California, and celebrate Mike & Audra's engagement with her family.

however that is not THE PLAN!

"ya'll" have a safe weekend now ya hear?

11.10.2005

i may look cute...

but i am actually the devil! some of you may know that while i am job searching i am "nannying" for two little girls a couple days a week for some monies.. picking them up from school and sitting with them for a couple of hours - not that big a deal. this is their younger daughter brooke who has been sick pretty much the whole time i have been watching her. yesterday she puked on me. poor baby! it was nast. and she fell sometime over the weekend and got this fabulous looking black eye. she and her sister are super cute... bUt.....

baby desires = OVER!

STOP THE RUMORS! Posted by Picasa

funny ha ha...

sometimes i just can't resist posting these things...

1- Go to www.google.com
2- Type in "Failure", without the quotes
3- Instead of hitting "Search" hit "I'm feeling Lucky"
4- See what comes up!
5- Tell your friends before the people at Google fix it.

I have gotten this before so i think the "people" at google just may know what is going on!

friday we layed around and ate US pizza until Mike and Audra came over to share their engagement joy - and mike fell asleep in our patio chair while us girls babbled on about weddings! haha. congrats to them!

saturday we watched girlie movies until the PF Chang meeting... later we met kristen and elizabeth at the Rose after they coached some c-lutheran v-ball.

google me! who are these people?

no news is good news? ENTERTAIN ME!

i took the doggies to the vet (they are healthY! and actually behaved!) and had lunch with MK @ scallions!

then, i googled myself! i love googling myself... "Kat Horan" resulted this picture (that's Kat - first one in the back row!) and story! i am an all state musician - in Fulton, New York! Bet you didn't know that about me!
Check out the article!

and "Kathleen Hills" got me this fun one: Designer Kat

"Karl Hills" actually resulted in some REAL karl info (3rd and 4th on the list no less!) from the University of Tulsa's Collegian! TU Collegian (all those fraternity president interviews... why didn't they ever interview sorority presidents so i could be GOOGLE-abLE!?!)

what does google say about YOU?
